Sometimes a goaltender plays well. Sometimes he gets lucky.
Sometimes it’s both.
Jeremy Smith stonewalled a hard-charging Bears offense through 2+ periods, allowed a tying goal by Christian Djoos, and then had help from his best friends – the goal posts – THREE TIMES with the game tied 1-1.
It sure seemed like the goal posts were as big as telephone poles, and the Bears did all they could to pick up the one point necessary to punch their playoff ticket and get a second.
But it didn’t happen this time. Running off of luck, Providence took control in overtime and Chris Casto used a burst of speed to confuse the forwards playing defense. He beat Dan Ellis for the winner, and Providence salvaged a win to split the season series with the Bears.
Going into Dunkin’ Donuts Center and pulling three out of a possible four points is no easy task. But the Bears did it. And as a result, we will be talking to you beyond April 17!
Thanks for listening everyone. We are en route home… how nice it will be to enjoy tomorrow off before getting back at it with a huge three-in-three (2/3 of which will be at GIANT Center) on the horizon.
