Head coaches of their former players have got to be seething mad when they see their former player score against them. Chris Brown did just that for the Wolf Pack, collecting a headman pass from NHL veteran Daniel Paille, breaking in and snapping a shot past Dan Ellis for a 2-0 Hartford lead.
Hershey would get a huge goal late in the frame though, on Riley Barber’s 24th of the season, inside the final minute of the frame to pull within one.
I have never seen so many passes blocked by a team. Shot-blocking is a skill for sure, but pass-blocking – laying your stick blade in just the right spot or turning your skate blade at just the right time and angle – is what Hartford has done all game long. They were nearly perfect until Barber beat Hellberg.
And now it’s time for the equalizer.
Box score is right here. Third period up next.
