As promised, in the “More to Come” category, the Bears welcome forward Derek Whitmore to Chocolatetown for 2013-14.
The former sniper with the Portland Pirates and Rochester Americans becomes the second player to jump back “across the pond” and sign on in Hershey, joining another former Amerk in Jamie Johnson.
Last season, Whitmore began with the veteran-laden St. John’s IceCaps, finding himself in and out of a lineup changed frequently by head coach Keith McCambridge. He departed for Germany, and played last year with the Augsburg Panthers (DEL).
And today, he couldn’t be happier as a new member of the Hershey Bears.
In between his skating and off-ice workout today, Whitmore graciously chatted for a few minutes about his decision to return to North America, his decision to come to Hershey, and his “child”… interview is right here.
