The Hershey Bears’ coaching staff is now complete as former Las Vegas Wranglers bench boss Ryan Mougenel has been named the new assistant coach of the Hockey Club, per Bears President/GM Doug Yingst.
Brief connection on the 37-year-old Mougenel (pronounced moo-zhuh-NEL): he played for new Bears head coach Mike Haviland in Atlantic City, and won the Kelly Cup as a player in 2003. The two have a long history, and that’s often all it takes for a head coach to have confidence in a new assistant.
As a head coach, he has taken the Wranglers to the Kelly Cup playoffs in each of his last four seasons there (2009-10 through 2012-13), winning the Western Conference championship in 2012.
Here is the official release on Mougenel’s arrival. Haviland and Mougenel are expected to attend the Washington Capitals Development Camp beginning this Monday, July 8 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.
