Holtby Named CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month

HB12_0007I was wondering, after Saturday’s game against Albany, if Braden Holtby would have a shot at earning Goaltender of the Month honors.

He had a pretty tough loss to start the month and dropped a really tight year-ending 3-2 decision to the Devils, but between those games had remarkable numbers.  Cristopher Nilstorp of the Texas Stars and Kevin Poulin of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers had darn good months as well, so I just wasn’t sure.

Then I remembered when Dany Sabourin went 8-1-1 last March (without a shutout), had a sub-2.00 GAA and a save percentage just shy of .940.  He lost the monthly honor to Toronto’s Ben Scrivens, who went 6-3-0 but had three clean sheets.  Lobbying for one of your players takes patience, but you get a great feeling when you get that call from the AHL communications office announcing such a selection.

And it couldn’t have happened to a greater human being than Holtby.

Congrats to #1 (or #70, depending on your team’s jersey) on a great month!
